Simple – Intentional – Sustainable living

Hi there, and thanks for stopping by. I am so glad you’re here! So, here’s my obligatory “first post” ~ truly one of my greatest introvert fears. Talking about “who I am” and “what I do” is pretty rough, but I’m going to give it maximum effort and see how it goes!

A little about me

Honestly, I like to think that Iโ€™m just a regular gal. I am a lifelong Alaskan, a wife, a mom of six (two boys and 4 girls), a backyard farmer, a maker and a small business owner. I love coffee with raw goat milk, my face in the sunshine, and ducks more than chickens.

Striving to live with a focus on the things that (I think) truly matter – intention, simplicity, and sustainability, this blog is a place where I hope to share the small, regular moments of everyday life. Some of those little details that often go unnoticed, but somehow make life feel full when you put them all together in a basket full of memories.

So, what is Simple – Sustainable – Intentional living?

Finding comfort in the rhythm of life: cooking from scratch, growing / raising some of our food, and being intentional with how we live. Thereโ€™s something special about working with your hands and seeing the seasons change through the food you grow and prepare.

Now, simple does not equal easy. And it’s not always peaceful, sometimes it can be chaotic and stressful. Yet itโ€™s something that Iโ€™ve come to embrace and treasure. I hope this space will inspire you to slow down and enjoy those (sometimes crazy) moments too.

What is homesteading, really?

Homesteading to me, is really just about finding a simple, sustainable ways to go about our daily lives. Steps toward more producing, less consuming. Whether thatโ€™s making bread from scratch, growing some herbs in the windowsill, making homemade yogurt with milk from a local farmer and preserving foods from the market.

Not everyone is milking cows, raising chickens or pigs, and preserving their bountiful harvest. We’re all at different spots in this journey of learning to make the most of what we’ve got and what we have access to. It all counts, it’s all meaningful. And don’t let anyone tell you it’s not!

What you can expect

In this special space, Iโ€™ll be sharing my thoughts, simple solutions, recipes, and little tidbits from our day-to-day. My goal is twice weekly posts, but in reality, there’s likely to be ebbs and flows and I’ll simply do the best I can. There probably wonโ€™t be a lot of fancy, perfect photos and definitely no grandiose recipes. Just real, sometimes messy, moments as we move through our rhythm – daily, seasonally, and annually.

If youโ€™re someone who values simple joys, nourishing food, creating a cozy environment, and being intentional with how you live, I think youโ€™ll find something here that resonates with you. Please sign up for our newsletter, if you haven’t yet. Also, feel free to ask questions, leave comments and feedback – Iโ€™m truly looking forward to connecting with you!

Take care,

Jesika
